Match report – BHRFC 2’s vs St Francis
Last Saturday Burgess Hill 2nd XV hosted St Francis is the league.
The game almost didn’t go ahead after the referee was taken ill and pulled out the morning of the game. Luckily for all concerned local thespian, Rodney Trotter and Basil Fawlty impersonator, (and referee) Josh Plummer came to the rescue to allow the game to go ahead.
The men in black started well and took the game to Frannies using their pacey forwards (excluding squishy wheezy Beiber) and backline that wouldn’t look out of place in an Olympics 100 metre final (Morbs was the one who took out Bolt with a Segway).
Frannies defended for the first 15 minutes like lions chopping down Hill attackers like Canadian loggers. During this period the YouTube Brighton street dancing sensation the Disco Bunny proved as well as having moves like Jagger he is also a Chiropractor tackler!
The first try of the game came after flanker Joe Turner made a break and passed to winger Joe Brown who scorched down the wing to score an unonverted try, 5-0.
This try was followed up 5 minutes later by prop Kyle Knowles who was given a pop pass by fly half Dave Tyrrell before deploying his standard “Hand Off of Justice” to the last defender before crossing the whitewash like an elephant bathing. Tyrrell argued the barn door was not big enough as he missed the conversion from under the sticks. 10-0.
Tyrrell was next on the score sheet when following a break by the black back he dummied and stepped to score under the sticks and this time he converted his own try, 17-0.
The All Blacks added a 4th when following a break by centre and black magic body manipulator Pete Blenkharn he was tackled 10 metres from the line by the Disco Bunny. Second row Tim Daniel supported by hooker James Leaney picked up and drove for the line. The opposition defence all stood aghast as Sloth and Igor powered over the line. Tyrrell was looking at Specsavers online as he once more missed. 22-0.
Frannies were not to be outdone and they came back strong with their second row carrying well before their skillful fly half got hold of the ball. Following a penalty 5 metres out from the Hill line, the Frannies Hooker tapped and dived over the line for the unconverted try to end the half 22-5.
The men in black once more dominated early exchanges and after 5 minutes winger George “Horhay” Bazire back from wedding planning in the Caribbean (tough life) showed a clean pair of heals to outstrip the defence to score in the corner 27-5.
Joe Turner was next on the score sheet as he glided around 5 players like Rodney Trotter in a market with suitcase before scoring under the sticks and shouting “Cosmic!” Tyrrell added the extras 34-5.
Frannies once more came back at Hill and following a number of great runs by the Disco Bunny the Frannies hooker grabbed his second 34-10.
Horhay bagged his second minutes later showing great feet to cut open the defence to score in the corner, 39-10.
The last score of the game went to scrum half and captain Adam Mayes in his first game back after 6 weeks out with a knee injury. No.8 Beiber picked up and went wide (looking for the subs bench no doubt) before passing back inside to Mayes whose Skeletor like frame clinked and clanked all the way to the line. Tyrrell added the extras to end the game 46-10. Next week the 2’s play their last league game of the season away to Brighton Outcasts KO 3pm.
