BHRFC Under 14s Vs Pulborough

After the excitement of the trip to Guernsey, BHRFC hosted Pulborough at Poveys close on Sunday.

The match kicked off in windy but sunny conditions and both teams started to run the ball well.

However, it was the visitors who quickly ran into the Hill half and used the wind and their position well.

Hill held and tackled for the first 10 minutes but the match changed with Hill’s first injury. Flanker Upton received a knock to his back and had to come off. Hill used their one sub and Fox came on and did an admirable job in defence.

However, Hill did lack some fire power and Pulborough soon scored their first try with some strong runs and clever support.

The conversion was successful and Pulborough moved to 0-7 ahead.

The next try was in a similar vein with Hill often winning ball but knocking it on, dropping the pass or being turned over.

The Hill defence was also struggling and gave Pulborough too much space to attack. With hard running lines and good support and Pulborough score again. The conversion was good and Hill were 0-14 down.

Unfortunately this trend continued as the final try of the half also went to Pulborough.

The conversion missed and it was 0-19.

Just before the half Hill lost fly half Collingbourne and were down to 14 for the last few minutes of the half.

Half time Pulborough lent Hill a player and the game followed a similar pattern.

Hill continued to turn over ball but each time failed to move the ball and use their speedy backs.

Pulborough scores 4 further try’s and 2 conversions to get to 0-44.

Hill also lost Rogers to a knock and Pulborough sportingly leant a further player and the game continued.

It was Hill who had the last word with at last winning the ball and using their back line to make space and Bennett took his opportunity and scored in the corner.

This was the last play and with the missed conversion the match finished at 5-44. The Forward of the Match was back row Kaylo who tackles himself to a standstill and the Back of the Match was scrum half Harrison who despite being under constant pressure kept at it .

Hill were taught a lesson in aggressive defence, lines of running and support by a well organised and aggressive Pulborough team.
