Dear BHRFC friends and members,

We rounded off the 2021 /2022 season in style by winning the Sussex All Blacks 7s tournament last week. BHRFC playing under the name “Train Pain” beat Lonely Goats in the final. The British Army had representation for the first time providing a team from the Scots Guards. Formed over 375 years ago the infantry regiment, renowned for their discipline and courage in battle, also has the honour of guarding Buckingham Palace in their traditional red tunic and bearskin hat. It was an honour to host them at our club (and beat them!).

A big thank you to Tom for taking some great pictures!  We have posted these on our Facebook page.  You can also follow the link:

Unfortunately, several teams pulled out at the last minute due to the weather being too hot. Poor form really, considering the only thing “too hot” on the day was Flav’s chicken wings! A special mention to Ox Burger who stepped in at short notice to provide food. Absolutely delicious.

On Sunday our Black Adders were in action in the walking rugby festival, again we reached the final but were narrowly beaten by Esher RFC. Ros Plummer ably assisted by Dan provided a sumptuous Ploughman’s Lunch for everyone. We also raised money for #Wellerfest during the day so thank you to all those who donated a prize and sold and bought tickets. At the time of writing, I don’t know the amount raised but thank you to all the Adders.

The weekend couldn’t have worked without the panel of referees, all our volunteers, Happy Pete behind the bar, Tom Hylands for the AV equipment and Tom Grimes with his magic camera. Many thanks to you all.

Next season we celebrate 60 years of rugby at BHRFC. When Fletch and Willis formed the club I bet they didn’t think we’d still be going today and winning silverware. Some things that are happening:

  1. 24th September 60’s themed party at the club. This will be a ticket event going on sale soon.
  2. 60th Anniversary Brochure. There will be a chance to take out some advertising space in the brochure but also to share anecdotes and photos. The aim of the brochure is to raise funds for our Junior Section and support those in our rugby community who are disadvantaged. All enquiries to me please.
  3. 60th Dinner Dance – date and venue to be confirmed. An organising committee is being formed and fundraising will continue all year to keep the costs down and the fun high.
  4. 60th Anniversary Charity Matches. Date TBC also but a celebration of men’s, women’s, vets and junior rugby at BHRFC.
  5. Le Crunch Lunch. 11th March 2023 as BHRFC host Shoreham RFC in the league and England play France at Twickenham, we will host a former players lunch at the clubhouse to celebrate the friendships made over the last 60 years.

Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30pm, we are seeing good numbers and with a tough league next season we need all the player fitness and availability we can get!
