A harder win for the boys against a side that tried to be aggressive throughout the match. Respect to Lewes in not giving up and when they scored it sounded like they had won. We are very proud of the boys to have soaked up the aggression and continue to dominate and play the Cavalier’s style of rugby throughout. The last try of the day was pleasing to see it once again change many hands to cross over. Clean, crisp and without fault.
It’s the first time that the boys have been pushed. The opposition were large and aggressive. For 20 mins or so (first half of second half) Lewes played their style and disrupted the team. However once we gained control and possession back, the opposition had well and truly lost the game. We are very happy with the way the team responded.
Being short on numbers this week, we had a few players playing out of position, and geez didn’t they do a great job of it. The team is starting to really gel as a unit and play for each other. Our mantra of every player is equal and we play as one unit is not only starting to shine, but you can see the enjoyment in the players. Being pushed for the first time, there are a number of aspects to work on. I hope we continue to find teams that will push the boys to the limit to see how they respond.
Positives
- Response after being pushed
- Defensive mentality
- Teamwork – particularly at the breakdown
Things to improve
- When to pass/offload and when to go to ground
- Infringing (Penalties)
- One line defence – especially when being pushed
Highlight
Last 15 mins or so when the team took control back from the opposition. Honourable mentions to Harv playing like a demon off the ball in the rucks and breakdowns, and Jay playing fullback for the first time and performing admirably. Jay did this because the team needed it and stepped in – big heart and loads of team respect.
Play of the Day
The play of day has to be Jack’s palm off on the big fella from Lewes. It was aggressive – short, sharp and perfectly placed. It sat the big guy back on his bottom. Masterclass Jack!
