Burgess Hill Bonfire Procession

Burgess Hill Bonfire Procession

Adam Rezazadeh1 Oct 2023 - 14:30

All Blacks Light Up The Town

On Saturday evening, 70+ members of Burgess Hill Rugby Club took part in the Burgess Hill bonfire procession to celebrate this uniquely Sussex event.

Meeting in Cyprus road car park the club members were visibly one of the bigger community groups participating, easily out numbering the football club 4 to 1.

Minis and juniors were donned in their orange shirts and fluorescent face paint, lit up with lots of glow sticks and of course with rugby balls in hand.

Beth used her craft skills to create several light up rugby balls for the display and the Biggs’ created a large rugby banner dutifully carried around by some of the younger players.

All the kids chanted and shouted their way around the route, shouting “Oggy, oggy, oggy - Oi, oi, oi” and the BHRFC rallying cry of “Sussex All Blacks” - many of the kids getting hoarse throats from all the shouting and the smoke from the torches carried by the coaches and parents.

Many spectators commented that the rugby club were the loudest bunch of children and adults in the procession - which is a fair assessement. The boys and girls received a very loud, and very proud, cheer from members of the club frequenting Quench - one of the club sponsor and the providers of the club’s Sunday brunch kitchen.

Well done to all the children and parents who helped out and our DoR for organising.
